Kyosho Fazer Mk2 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 1/10 4WD electric Readyset

The Kyosho Fazer Mk2 is one of the best ways to put a realistic, licensed car body on a tough 1/10 scale electric chassis. It comes in several versions, and that's where most questions start: which chassis is which, which bodies fit, and which parts swap between them. This guide sorts out the Fazer Mk2 family so you can pick the right Readyset and buy the right bodies and upgrades.

What is the Fazer Mk2?

The Fazer Mk2 is Kyosho's 1/10 electric platform for scale-looking cars. Most versions are 4WD with a shaft drive, and they come as a Readyset, Kyosho's name for ready-to-run: assembled, painted, and with a radio installed. The focus is realism. Many Fazer bodies are officially licensed replicas of classic muscle cars, JDM legends and race cars, and they're popular with drivers who care as much about the look as the lap time.

The Fazer Mk2 chassis versions

FZ02: the standard touring chassis

The FZ02 is the standard 4WD on-road chassis. It carries touring-car style bodies like the Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R and the Toyota Celica, and race bodies like the Mercedes-AMG GT3. See the Skyline 2000GT-R KPGC10 Readyset and the 1970 Toyota Celica GT Tuned Readyset. If you want to build your own, the Fazer Mk2 FZ02 chassis kit is the starting point.

FZ02L: the long wheelbase for American muscle

The FZ02L stretches the wheelbase so long, classic American bodies sit right on the chassis. This is the home of the Dodge Charger, Chevelle, Buick Riviera, Chevy C10 and Challenger Hellcat bodies. The VE versions add a brushless motor for more speed, like the FZ02L VE 1970 Dodge Charger and the VE 1970 Chevelle Supercharged.

FZ02-R: rally

The FZ02-R is set up for rally, with more ground clearance and suspension travel for dirt roads and gravel. Bodies include the 2002 Subaru Impreza STI WRC, the 1971 Datsun 240Z and the 1972 Mazda Savanna RX-3.

Fazer D2 (FZD2): rear-wheel-drive drift

The Fazer D2 is a dedicated RWD drift chassis with a steering gyro. It comes as the Toyota 86 GT Tuned and the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86. Drift tires are hard plastic, so it slides on smooth concrete, polished floors and drift carpet. The D2 uses many of its own parts, so check the "Fazer D2" or "FZD2" name in a listing before you buy.

Fazer Mk2 Rage 2.0: off-road

The Fazer Mk2 Rage 2.0 uses the Fazer platform for an off-road truck with bigger tires and long-travel suspension.

Which bodies fit which chassis?

Fazer bodies are made for a specific wheelbase, so a body made for the FZ02L will not line up on an FZ02, and the other way around. Every body in our store names the chassis it fits in the title. A few examples:

Clear (non-decoration) bodies come unpainted with decals, so you can paint them any way you like. See our guide on how to paint a clear RC body. Pre-painted (decoration) bodies arrive finished and ready to mount.

Spare parts to keep on hand

Like any car that goes fast on pavement, a Fazer eventually meets a curb. The parts that break or wear most are suspension arms (the FZ02 suspension arm set also fits the FZ02L and FZ02-D), front bumper foam, the spur gear (68T TC spur) and the pinion (32T pinion). You'll find all of them by selecting your Fazer in the Parts Finder, or browse everything Kyosho.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the FZ02 and the FZ02L?

The FZ02L has a longer wheelbase to fit long American muscle car bodies. Bodies are made for one wheelbase or the other, so check the body's listing before you buy.

What does VE mean on a Fazer?

VE versions come with a brushless motor and speed control, so they're faster than the brushed versions.

Can a Fazer Mk2 drift?

The 4WD Fazers can slide on drift tires, but the Fazer D2 is the dedicated RWD drift car, with a gyro to help hold the slide.

Is the Fazer Mk2 good for beginners?

Yes. It comes assembled, it's durable, and parts are easy to find. For more on choosing a first RC, read our RC beginner's guide.
