Overview
The Tamiya 1/700 USS Yorktown (CV-5) model kit recreates the legendary American aircraft carrier as she appeared during the pivotal Battle of Midway in June 1942. Completed in September 1937 as the US Navy's sixth aircraft carrier, the Yorktown served as flagship of Task Force 17 under Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher.
The Yorktown played crucial roles in early Pacific War operations, including helping thwart the Japanese advance at the Battle of the Coral Sea despite suffering severe damage. At Midway, alongside USS Enterprise and USS Hornet, she helped defeat the Japanese Mobile Fleet before succumbing to attacks from aircraft of the carrier Hiryu and torpedoes from submarine I-168.
