Description
Overview
The Tamiya 1/35 German Panther Ausf.D recreates Germany's legendary medium tank developed specifically to combat the Soviet T-34. Given the priority of stopping the T-34, armored warfare expert Heinz Guderian himself was involved in the design process. The result was a tank featuring excellent mobility with a 55km/h top speed, T-34-inspired sloped armor up to 80mm thick, and the powerful L/70 7.5cm gun reportedly capable of engaging T-34s at 3km range.
The Ausf.D was the initial Panther variant, with 842 units manufactured between January and September 1943. While rushed development led to reliability issues during early engagements like the Battle of Kursk in July 1943, the Panther proved highly capable both offensively and defensively, becoming one of WWII's most respected tanks.
