The Ausf.G featured the long-barreled KwK 40 L/43 gun, a critical upgrade that came after combat experience against Soviet armor proved the inadequacy of earlier short-barreled weapons. Produced between March 1942 and June 1943, approximately 1,687 Ausf.G tanks were manufactured.
